The Dark Side of Food

The project FINE FECES/Splendid Shit started in 2007, when I got an annual calendar named „Contemporary Art Diary“ as a giveaway. I had no use for it although its nice appearance was tempting. While sitting on the toilet (one of my favorite thinking places–get rid of something and create space for something new), I pondered about it. This marked the occasion to start drawing again and the shape of the feces were a great challenge of daily convex-concave practice. Luckily my toilet was a washout toilet which created perfect working conditions. In 2014 when the art book publisher of the annual calendar stopped its production I decided to switch to sheets of paper using document ink.

People exclude awkward things: out of sight out of mind. We don’t want to deal with the unpleasant unless it is absolutely necessary. Usually the world of human feces is an unseen parallel world of the underground. Not because it is invisible, it is not meant to be seen. But what a rich variety of designs they offer! They are never the same shape, size, colour, consistence or odor. My body became an artmachine and the term „daily form“ gains a new dimension. The dark side of food is pure nature waste, sometimes even organic.
